It is reported that Troop 87 was first chartered in 1938-39 to the West Nashville Men’s club and met downtown, The first Scoutmaster’s name and the number of participants are unknown. In 1942 the troop’s charter was dropped due to the manpower demands of World War II. At the end of the war, in mid-year 1945, the west Nashville American Legion Post No. 5 rechartered Troop 87, and the Troop remained there for three to four years.

Belle Meade UMC started meeting at Parmer School in 1950 and assumed the Troop’s charter prior to moving to the present site in 1966.
