Troop 87 Inter Troop Communications 9-14-09

1. Dr. Petcu is on call tonight, Mr. Burnett will be acting Scoutmaster for the meeting. Dr. Petcu asks that you take it easy on him!

2. Our September Troop Outing was to the Grimes Canoe Base in Perry County this past weekend. Hopefully everyone had fun, learned a lot and brought back some great memories. Anyone have any stories from the campout?

3. The 2009 BSA Sporting Clays Fun Shoot will be at the Tennessee Clay Target Complex on White Bridge Road on September 26th. This is a Council Fund Raising activity at which Troop 87 has a standing invitation to camp on Friday night, and help on Saturday at the shoot. They also would like us to field a team of Boy Scouts to shoot if we have Scouts interested in the event. We need an adult shooter to head this event up, please see Dr. Petcu for details.

4. In preparation for Troop 87’s November Climb and Rappel Weekend, additional trained leadership is much needed. BSA requires Climbing & Rappelling Certified adult leaders to lead the activity. We need several Troop 87 adult leaders to obtain the Climbing and Rappelling Certification. The Middle Tennessee Council offers a Climb / Rappelling Certification course scheduled October 23-25, 2009. The cost for the training is $10 plus a full weekend of your time. Please step forward and contact James Evans for additional information at 615-972-9033 or james@benchmark.org. Or register directly with Crystal Mayfield at the Scout Office, 615-383-9724*234 or cmayfield@mtcbsa.org.

5. Mr. Larry Myers is our new West District Training Chairman. Please congratulate him on accepting this important responsibility!

6. Order of the Arrow Members, the Fall Fellowship Weekend will be September 18-19 at Boxwell.

7. October 2nd and 3rd, the Area I Cub and Family Campout at Boxwell needs Boy Scouts to teach the Readyman, First Aid and Outdoorsman Webelos Activity pins. Service hour credit will be given for this activity as well as the opportunity to promote our Troop to the more than 1800 Cubs, Webelos and parents in attendance. Our part in the event will be over by Saturday afternoon. We also need the SMART Team to set up a typical Scout Campsite for the education of the Cubs and Webelos. We have a sign up sheet at the front table; please sign up for this important event.

8. The Cogioba Merit Badge University will be on October 17th at Austin Peay University. The cost will be $12. Registration will be by Troop. Please see Mr. Childress for information.

9. Sally Foster fund raising has started. If you have not picked up your sales kits, please contact Kristie Hall, kristie.hall@vanderbilt.edu or by phone 491-2438. The sale ends at the end of the month. This is a great way to add funds to your scout account as all profits go directly to the scout.
